How To Win When Things Are Going Wrong

There are all sorts of things that can go wrong in life that can have a detrimental affect on your emotions and well-being. The most important thing to do is “stay positive” – at least that is what most everyone says to you.

We all know how that is – much easier said than done.

This will leave you wondering what to do when things go wrong in life.

There are a lot of different approaches to this, and I hope you choose a pathway that is productive!

Life Event or Goal Obstacle?

There are some things that we quite simply cannot change. These include subjects like the death of a loved one, things that have happened in the past, aging, etc. Although we cannot easily see past the negative side of some events, we can learn to accept them as a natural part of life that we can be at peace with.

I am not going to go into too much detail about life events, that would be for another blog post entirely.

What I want to discuss is what to do when things go wrong in life that have to deal with something you can easily alter.

Some examples of goal obstacles are listed below:

  • The loss of a job
  • A long term relationship that has ended
  • Not losing weight as quickly as you would like
  • Reaching a low point with your finances
  • Feeling depressed and like nothing is working for you

These are all things that can be worked with, changed, and/or replaced with new circumstances after some time.

How To Take A Look At The Positive Side

When things seem to be going wrong and you have no clue what to do, one of the first things I can recommend is to accept exactly where you are in this current moment.

If you accept where you are at in the moment, then chances are, you will make sure that the moment does not get worse. I don’t mean that you should see this as positive by any means at this point. I just want you to be truthful and honest with yourself about exactly where you stand when something has gone wrong.

Feeling depressed? alone? sad? Sure. Experience the emotion and allow it to be with you.

After you fully experience the emotion and circumstance, it is time to replace it with something that feels much better.

It’s time to get positive. Next time something does not go the way that you wanted it to, ask yourself in that moment: “What is one thing that I could do that would bring me closer to a happy feeling?”

This is the hard part. It is hard to allow yourself to ask a question like this when things are going wrong. You need to be strong and allow it when at a low point.

When you find an answer (or hopefully, multiple answers), you need to do them as soon as possible so that you can remove yourself from negativity. Since we already dealt with the negative situation before by observing it, it is absolutely logical for you to do something else in order to bring yourself out of it.

You can feel bad as much as you want to, but until you reach for a higher positive feeling, nothing new can happen.

It Still Doesn’t Feel Right – What To Do

If things still don’t feel right to you, then it is time to bring out some more honesty again. Maybe a particular situation or occurrence is simply not right for you in life. You are your biggest inspiration and also largest roadblock when it comes to your goals. When it comes down to it, you need to allow yourself to be who you are meant to become.

If you still weigh 230 pounds, but wish you were 200 pounds, I don’t mean that you should just accept being 230 pounds. You still have a goal of what you want to achieve (some people are okay with being 230 pounds, and that is fine). What I am saying is that maybe you should focus on weighing 220 pounds first in order to make it simpler and easier for you to accomplish. Some people need to set smaller goals in order to reach a larger destination, and I highly recommend doing so.

Setting new goals is a successful way to turn a negative situation into something productive.

If you can’t seem to get yourself out of a negative situation that you are in, then you may need to go back to the allowing stage of this process before you will be able to set new goals for yourself. Allowing and experiencing will let the thoughts in your head pass by while you observe them. Once they have passed, it is much easier to think differently about a particular circumstance in your life.
